Retreats

Rev. Beth Galbreath offers one-on-one spiritual direction, also known as spiritual companionship or guidance (in person and over the web via Skype).

Rev. Galbreath holds United Methodist certification in spiritual formation, and she is a member of Spiritual Directors International and the Fellowship of United Methodist Spiritual Directors and Retreat Leaders, and works under the SDI ethical guidelines.

Typically a spiritual companionship relationship involves a monthly or bimonthly meeting or electronic connection for one hour. Spiritual companionship is not counseling, but an opportunity to explore your inner life, to tell, celebrate and examine your own sacred story in an environment of spiritual hospitality. The goal is to encourage a deepening connection with God.

"Spiritual companionship" is a more precise term than the more traditional term "spiritual direction," which seems to imply issuing orders or assignments. Although suggestions may certainly be made about spiritual practices that might be useful, the process isn't a relationship of judging or giving orders! But no matter what one calls it, the practice of spiritual mentoring is ancient and appears in every faith tradition. For more information, see this page at the website of Spiritual Directors International.

Rev. Galbreath requests $50 for a typical one-hour session. Such a spiritual companionship relationship is initiated, continued and discontinued by the person seeking companionship; there is never any pressure.

"If I had never met Beth Galbreath, I would not know some of my talents."
